I was especially drawn to this collaboration between Arvin Olano and Rugs USA because of its warm, earthy palette. It pairs beautifully with wood floors, moody walls, and natural light. Whether you’re working from home or refreshing a small nook, this piece adds depth without distraction.

The Etsy Turkish Rug Pulled My Entire Living Room Together!

I could scour Etsy for rugs for genuinely 12 hours straight!!!! Because LOOK what happens when you find the right one:

When I started designing this space, I knew I wanted something that felt cozy but elevated—a lived-in kind of elegance. The dark sectional and clean lines in my living room needed something to ground them. I searched everywhere for the right piece, and then I stumbled upon this vintage-inspired rug on Etsy. The moment I unrolled it, I knew I found the one.

Why I Chose This Rug

The tones are warm, muted, and perfectly layered: dusty rose, taupe, olive, and hints of a soft navy. It’s the kind of pattern that works across seasons and styles. Whether you're designing around neutrals, moody velvets, or florals, this rug ties everything together.

It’s technically a printed design, which keeps the price point accessible, but it has the visual depth of an antique. The pattern isn’t too bold or busy—it has that quiet charm that makes a room feel like home.

How It Changed the Feel of the Room

Adding this rug instantly softened the space. It broke up the dark charcoal of my sectional and brought a sense of dimension to the hardwood floors. Paired with layered pillows, fresh florals, and soft natural light, it made the room feel curated but still totally lived in.

The best part? It’s incredibly low maintenance. Perfect for a high-traffic space without the worry. I don’t baby it, and that’s a win in my book.

Where to Find It

You can find the exact rug here on Etsy. I got the 8x10 size for this space, and it fits beautifully under the sectional with enough border to still show off the edges.

If you're building a warm, character-filled home without spending a fortune, I can’t recommend this rug enough. It’s one of those foundational pieces that quietly elevates everything else in the room.

Best of all, Barry approves!

Why Murphy Beds Are a Game-Changer for Studio Living

When I first moved into my NYC studio, I struggled with the layout. My bed was the centerpiece of the room, and no matter how much I tried to decorate around it, the space always felt cramped. Then I thought long and hard about investing in a murphy bed, and when I commited to it - everything changed. Not only do they offer sleek, modern designs that blend seamlessly with your decor, but they also make it possible to transform my studio from a bedroom to a living room (or even a home office) in seconds.

If you know me, you know that with every move I make, there’s one non-negotiable: a Castlery couch. This isn’t just a brand I love—it’s a brand I trust with my whole cozy, design-obsessed heart. And trust me, I put my furniture through it. A Saturday in Philadelphia Roaming The Italian Market

This was my very first neighborhood the first time I moved to Philadelphia back in March of 2017, so it’s pretty special to me now and always. It was officially the first time I had moved to a new city knowing not a soul (my experience in New Zealand is for another blog post!).

These streets were my companions those first few months before I made any friends, as I’d stroll around lost and discovering my new city.

Thank you note to the birds.

I had been living out of a suitcase and room/couch hopping for the better part of the 7 months pre-COVID, so when this hit I moved back into a room at my parents since they so lovingly welcomed me in - so grateful for that. They live on a lot of land that I’ve really come to think as magical…I look out the window and sometimes think I am in Ireland. Lush green grass, a little pond where ducks play all day and birds fly above through the trees that create a canopy over it. I find pure joy in seeing birds of all kind fly through, their colors popping against the greenery.
