The Art of the Linger at Detroit’s Shinola Hotel
Cozied up right in the heart of Detroit, the Shinola Hotel is quite simply a work of art. I found myself in "The Living Room," which feels way more like a friend’s private library than a hotel lobby.
There’s this specific magic that happens around 11am when the light hits those velvet mohair sofas just right. I spent hours there just listening to the turntable in the corner, watching the people go in and out, fixated on all of the wall art, and ordering just "one more" coffee, a few times.
I didn't show up with a shot list or a lighting rig. I showed up as a guest and stayed until the room told its own story. It’s the kind of space that makes you want to put your phone down and actually stay a while.
